About Our Wool
Our insulation is made using British wool, sourced from hardy sheep breeds that thrive in the hills and mountains of England, Scotland, and Wales. By using coarse, springy wools—which are often overlooked by the fashion and carpet industries—we turn a natural byproduct into high-performance insulation.
Why British Wool?
While these terms are often confused, they are not mutually exclusive. Designing for all three is key to maximizing energy efficiency and indoor air quality.
- Natural Resilience: Coarse wool provides the bulk and “springiness” essential for effective thermal insulation.
- Eco-Friendly Processing: Our wool is cleaned (scoured) and manufactured in Yorkshire. We avoid extra washing or dyeing to keep our carbon footprint low.
- Authentic Character: Because we use a cleaning process without harsh chemicals, the wool may retain a faint, natural smell which fades in a short period of time.
Commitment to Animal Welfare
We believe that high-quality insulation starts with happy, healthy sheep.
- Free-Range Flocks: Our sheep roam freely on mountains and fells, moving to lower ground only for winter or lambing protection.
- Ethical Shearing: All wool comes from live animals shorn as part of routine husbandry and welfare practices.
- No Mulesing: We strictly prohibit the use of wool involving mulesing. This practice is not used in the UK.
- Highest Standards: As licensees of British Wool, we ensure that our fleeces are sourced through a supply chain that meets rigorous UK and IWTO (International Wool Textile Organisation) welfare guidelines.
